This century-old winery is committed to recovering the value of a historical and little known variety in the Rioja DOC: Garnacha Blanca, and enhancing the maximum expression of its terroir by accompanying it with the also indigenous Tempranillo Blanco, resulting in an elegant, complex wine with brilliant freshness.
In the words of Rioja Vega´s winemaker, Esperanza Elías: "We want to enhance the lesser-known face of some of the wines from our region." Elías adds "this is a white for wine lovers, showing to best effect the evolution of the different wine-producing areas in our region" and affirms that "in addition, it will seem almost familiar to those who maintain a close relationship with some of the other white wines they love."
Rioja Vega Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco has been produced with a modern style concept in mind, and a commitment to highlight its unique personality. After a selected harvest at dawn, the free run must was obtained without pressing. After controlled fermentation at low temperature for a month, it was subsequently kept on its fine lees with regular racking.
The result is a complex and subtle white wine, where the weight of the Tempranillo Blanco fruit supports and upholds the subtle floral and fresh herb nuances of the Garnacha Blanca. A rich and ripe mouthfeel provides an elegant balance of fruit and freshness, silky smooth yet with a long, lingering finish. A wine for the Spring season with great personality.
Rioja Vega aims to continue with a tradition of making great Rioja whites, a quest to show the identity of little known white varieties from small plots in Rioja that show the diversity and elegance the region can provide for white wines that make a difference. 135 years of history allow Rioja Vega to maintain its Rioja heritage without turning its back on innovation and indigenous varieties of great personality, that few others are capable of offering.
